Today, I'm thrilled to share the first article that I've written for Start Marriage Right, a hub of online encouragement for people pursuing healthy marriage relationships.
I'll be honest-it's been quite a few months since I received an invitation to write for them. Like, 5. Or 6, maybe. My procrastination has been due in part to busyness, but also because I knew I wanted to begin my writing relationship at SMR with a story from my past; a story that I'm not always eager to share in polite company: I wanted to write about a breakup.
Those stories take time to tell.
I've seen plenty of endings to love in the lives of my friends and family. None of them have been pretty. There is no kind and clean parting of ways when the heart is at stake. But where once I saw deep pits of pain and regret, I now bear witness to the fruit of lessons learned and hearts restored. In my own life, I can look back on that dark season and give thanks, because God used that man and our relationship to draw me closer to Himself, and into a deeper understanding of who He created me to be.
As you'll read in the article, a breakup set me free to love again, and in a culture where breakups reap the bulk of our blame-throwing and bitter resentment, sometimes that doesn't get said enough.
